“Home-alone” hoppy wheat beer brewday

“Home-alone” hoppy wheat beer brewday

My wife left me, the kid and the dog, and went for a 5-day visit to her sister in Berlin. As the only in charge grownup person left in the house, I decided that the most responsible thing to do will be to brew a beer!
Since I couldn’t travel to the LHBS, I had to improvise with the ingredients I had in house-stock. With a brief look at the grains I had, I saw that American wheat beer is possible to be brewed. Fast search at the brewtoad website, I found this lovely American hoppy wheat beer recipe.

Preperations

I scaled the recipe for a double batch (~40 litres), made some hops substitutions, milled the grains, filtered a required amount of RO water, added the minerals to the water and configured the CBPI controller to start heating the water at 5 in the morning.

Brewday

Brewday started automatically at 5 in the morning, at 6 I put the grains into the mash, took the kid to the kindergarten and came back for sparging.  Boil step was easy since most of the hops were a late addition.

Fermentation

I decided to ferment with US-05 to achieve evident taste. Fermentation was at 17c.
